Oxford Brookes University began life as the Oxford School of Art in 1865, and then expanded to become a technical college. When it moved to Headington, it became a polytechnic and finally in 1992 it became the university that we have today.
Oxford Brookes is based on three campuses (Headington, Wheatley and Harcout Hill) in and around Oxford which ca all be reached by public transportation. A direct inter-site bus service also operates all year round. Each of the three campuses has residential accommodation, playing, fields, a library, computer rooms, and Students’ Union shops.
The university is seen by many as a premier learning and teaching institution with outstanding research records. It is widely acknowledged to be the UK’s leading university, surpassing many older institutions in newspaper league tables. It also goes as one of the few institutions to have more than 20 subjects rated as excellent for teaching, a long standing reputation for employability, and is host to two natural centres of excellence in teaching and learning.
The city of Oxford where the university is located is a beautiful, historic city which is famous for its writers, scholars and artists. Today, with its high quality amenities and lively student population, the city has a cosmopolitan feel that contrasts with its historic architecture. Fast and frequent coaches link Oxford to London and the major airports, making it an easy place to get to. It is also ideally situated for exploring the rest of Britain.
Oxford Brookes University takes special interests in the success of its students. For this reason international students are allocated personal tutors whose responsibility is to offer help and to advise the student throughout his stay. Also, professional and experienced advisory staff is on hand to help with matters such as counselling, disability, childcare, housing, medical and dental care, immigration, careers, benefits and finance.
Full range of courses which include foundation, undergraduate, postgraduate and taught research are offered here at Oxford Brookes University. A range of preparatory courses for international students are also available. Courses ran here enable a student to specialise in the areas that interest him/her most. This gives the student the chance within his/her chosen programme of study to pursue personal interests.
This university offers one of the largest and most flexible undergraduate study programmes in the UK, including more than 80 single honours degree and a large number of combined honours. Undergraduate courses range from traditional academic disciplines such as maths, psychology and biology, to more career-oriented such as international business management, automotive engineering, and hotel and restaurant management.
With postgraduate studies, the university offers a full range of taught courses leading to awards including masters degrees, postgraduate diplomas and certificates and professional accreditation. There are also research degrees which are based on critically investigating and evaluating approved topics and presenting and defending a substantial thesis. Research degree awards can either be Mphil or PhD
